I will apologize from the get go! I like to talk!
I started building about a year ago and reading up on the industry so I could be as prepared as possible. I was big into running and sports before falling in love with figure. I watched a co-worker (I am a personal trainer with The Athletic Club, in Ontario) on her journey to her pro card in fitness. I HAD to be a part of the industry.
I had my eyes set on the IDFA Montreal Classic. I was anxious to get going and figured I would visit Montreal for the week after the competition as a reward. As I was driving to work one day, about 2 weeks ago, I hit back ice and destroyed my car. The money I had saved for that mini vacation, and competing, had to go into a new car. At first I was devastated. My dream had to be put off. I have now accepted it and will be setting my sights on another IDFA competition this year, and it looks like it will be the novice classic. I strongly believe that everything happens for a reason. I was not meant to compete in Montreal.
Right now I am checking daily for workshops in the Toronto area (I probably hit refresh on my browser every 5 seconds.... Eat something, hit refresh again... Shower, run to the office and hit refresh again... Pack my stuff for work then run back to my office.. haha!)! I have to learn the side pose before I step on the IDFA stage. I want to be prepared and to make sure I have the stage presence as well as a winning physique. My ultimate goal is a pro card.
My prep is going incredible. I have incorporated olympic lifting, which has really brought up some weak areas. The only thing that is holding me back right now is insomnia. This isn't any kind of joke insomnia either. This stuff is for real. I am going to a sleep clinic for it because herbal remedies, prescriptions... Nothing works!
Right now I train 5 days a week with weights, like I said, incorporating olympic lifts into my program throughout the week. I do little cardio. I try to fit in some yoga classes throughout the week depending on my work schedule. My problem is I build slow and lose weight quick (Who knew I would ever complain about losing quickly!). A friend of mine is helping me with my prep. I need someone to be accountable to, mostly with the diet. I am sure I could justify why Marble Slab ice cream is a good idea if I didn't have a coach! Right now I am on a high carb, moderate protein and fat diet. My body is responding a lot better than a low carb, high protein diet. It is important to find what works best for you! There is no cookie cutter program!
I am really excited to be a part of the IDFA and meet the other athletes. I have only heard great things about the organization and the integrity of those involved with running it. It will be an honour to finally say that I am an IDFA athlete!
